How did my English improve in three weeks?
I am a Vietnamese student. I just graduated my College last June. I decided to study English to have more chances in getting a good job. I had studied to various English centers in Vietnam and it was a little hard to improve my English skills efficiently. In Vietnam, an English class has at least 10 people, so teacher can't take care or correct pronunciation for each student. In addition, we directly speak Vietnamese when we finish class.
By the way, we only study English as a foreign language, so we only use it when studying English subject, working with foreign company or talking with foreigners. Even though we study English as a subject from Grade Three but we only focus on grammar and the test is done on paper. We don't care much about pronunciation.
One day, my mother's friend advised her to let me study English in the Philippines. That was the first time I heard about it. I surfed the internet and looked for some information. I was surprised because many Vietnamese went to the Philippines to study English and their skills improved after they finished their courses. I found an academic consulting company to ask for more English school details. Finally, I chose SMEAG as a destination to improve my English through ESL2 program.
This is the first time I came to study English in another country. I was so nervous that my English might not be enough to make conversation. The first week might be the hardest week for me when everything is different from the place to food to people. The only way to communicate with others is using English. I was tired and discouraged because of the numerous classes from 6:40 a.m to 8:35 p.m. I missed my morther, my family, my friends, my room and I also missed Hanoi.
The entire first two weeks, I had to explain many times when I have conversation with my teachers and other students. However, by three 1:1 classes, one 1:4 class and morning sparta class for grammar, I studied again the theories that I forgot. My teachers always helped and guided me how to pronounce properly by practising "tongue twister" everyday. As a result, my English is improving after three weeks. Now, I am confident in making friends and having conversations with other students. I have got more friends in different nationalities. Day by day, I give more appreciation to my teachers, friends, SMEAG and Cebu.
